Designed and prepared a polished, user-friendly e-commerce site to showcase and sell the Butterfly (BKF) designer chair online. The goal was to translate the product’s artisanal, high-end feel into a clear purchase path that highlights every customizable option — from canvas and leather covers to finishes and spare parts.

About

Butterfly Original makes and sells the iconic Butterfly / BKF chair — a design classic from 1938 — produced 100% by hand in Barcelona, designed by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari. All the chairs are manually manufactured by a craftsman team, making each chair unique.

The challenge

Physical, in-person sales alone were not sufficient for the client: the chair is a lifestyle / design purchase with a broad potential market beyond local footfall, and shoppers expect to see configurations, materials and lead times online before committing.

Design and development

A Figma prototype was created to define the site’s structure, navigation, and overall look & feel. The design balances a friendly shopping experience with a refined, premium aesthetic, highlighting product photography, customization options, and trust-building elements such as delivery and warranty information.

The website was implemented using PrestaShop with a fully customised template, ensuring seamless integration of product variations, secure payment methods, and clear checkout processes. The platform was configured to handle different chair models, materials, and spare parts, while maintaining flexibility for future growth.

Results

The new site offers a polished and intuitive shopping experience, making the brand’s entire catalogue accessible to a wider audience. Customers can now easily browse, compare, and select their preferred finishes and materials online, reducing friction and boosting confidence to buy. By combining strong visuals, detailed specifications, and a streamlined checkout, the company has successfully expanded beyond physical sales and positioned itself for scalable online growth.

The result is a seamless shopping experience that supports customization and helps transition the brand from physical sales to scalable online revenue.
